Activities in Oualidia are centered around the lagoon. The beach (a few minutes’ walk
from the house) is safe and pleasant for swimming. We can organise surfing lessons,
wind-surfing, kayak, pedalo and boat trips. Fancy catching a fish for supper?
Then come on one of our fishing expeditions. Like kite-flying? There's no better
place than the sandbanks of Oualidia. If you enjoy walking, you can follow the
coastal path for miles along deserted grottoes and beaches. Alternatively head
off down the estuary where the silence is broken only by the cries of curlews
and the distant crash of surf. Birdwatching is a spring and autumn highlight.
Over 140 species of shorebird and wader have been recorded in Oualidia, while
flamingoes visit throughout the year. Oualidia is also famous for its oyster
beds, established in 1957. At the Parc aux Huitres 007 you can see the oysters
being harvested and sample the produce in the pristine waterside restaurant.
On Saturdays a souk is held in Oualidia. The market teems with farmers from outlying
villages bartering over chickens, cooking pans, sacks of flour, olives and spices.
